Lorne is the town whose main beach and pier ban dogs. Surf Haven is the in-town stay that allows a pet dog on request. Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park is the in-town park that takes dogs on some campsites in season. 1, 7, 5

What we found

At a glance, one Lorne stay allows a dog on request. For example, Surf Haven’s house rules say pets are allowed on request, and dogs only. Two more listings sit at Separation Creek and Aireys Inlet. The caravan park allows dogs on some campsites, such as the sites its page names. The research method used only the pages in Sources. 1, 2, 3, 7

The comparison is between accommodation that accepts a dog and the larger resorts on Mountjoy Parade that do not. Separation Creek and Aireys Inlet are coastal alternatives outside the town centre. The caravan park publication describes seasonal permission on designated campsites. The shire publication describes where a dog must remain on a lead. Confirmation with the property remains necessary before arrival. 1, 7, 4

Which Lorne stays actually allow dogs?

Only one pet-allowed stay in our Lorne catalogue is in Lorne itself: Surf Haven, and only on request. The other two sit on the coast either side, at Separation Creek and Aireys Inlet. This page is about stays in and near Lorne. 1, 2, 3

Of the 17 stays in our Lorne catalogue checked on 1 November 2026, most listings said pets are not allowed. The larger resorts and motels on Mountjoy Parade we checked do not allow pets. For rooms that are not chosen for a dog, see where to stay in Lorne. 1

Surf Haven, Lorne Avenue

Surf Haven is a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom two-storey holiday home at 13 Lorne Avenue. Its house rules say “Pets are allowed on request. Charges may be applicable.” The listing description says guests may request permission to bring 1 pet dog (no cats) and must include the dog in the booking. Pet bowls are on the facilities list. 1

The same listing places the house under 1 km from Lorne Beach, with a deck, native gardens, an EV charger and free on-site parking. It does not say the garden is fenced. Ask before you treat a yard as secure. 1

2 Degrees of Separation, Separation Creek

2 Degrees of Separation is at 2 Harrington Street, Wye River, in Separation Creek, south-west of Lorne. Its house rules say “Pets are allowed. Charges may be applicable.” The listing says: “The property is also pet-friendly, so your four-legged family member can join the adventure.” 2

The listing describes 4 bedrooms, puts Separation Creek Beach about 3 minutes’ walk away, and calls Lorne a short drive. It does not say cats are welcome, or how many pets can come. Ask, and include the dog in the booking. 2

Pet Friendly Stays - BIG4 Aireys Inlet

Pet Friendly Stays - BIG4 Aireys Inlet is at 19 Great Ocean Road, Aireys Inlet, north-east of Lorne. Its house rules say “Pets are allowed. No extra charges.” 3

The listing places the cabins within BIG4 Aireys Inlet Holiday Park, with a heated outdoor pool, and puts Sandy Gully Beach about six minutes’ walk away. Read the pet line for your dates, including how many animals and whether a cat is accepted. 3

How do these pet-friendly stays compare?

Surf Haven is the in-town holiday home. 2 Degrees of Separation is south-west at Separation Creek. Pet Friendly Stays - BIG4 Aireys Inlet is north-east. Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park is in town and books direct with the park, not on the same three listing pages. 1, 2, 3, 7

Can you take a dog to Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park?

Yes, on some campsites, in season, and not in cabins. The Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park page says dogs are welcome seasonally on designated campsites only. The park is at 2 Great Ocean Road, Lorne. Erskine River and Queens Park are dog-free. 7

The park has five areas: Erskine River, Kia Ora, Ocean Road, Top Bank and Queens Park. The park page names Kia Ora, Ocean Road and Top Bank as the dog campsites, and says to book a Top Bank or Ocean Road site when booking online. Erskine River and Queens Park are dog-free. The dog and animal policy names the same three campsites and the same season. 7, 8

The dog season on the park page is 1 February to 15 December. It excludes Easter, Labour Day weekend, Melbourne Cup weekend, the AFL Grand Final, ANZAC Day weekend, and other dates the park notifies. Up to two dogs are allowed per booking. 7

The policy says to tell the park before you arrive. Dogs must be registered and vaccinated (C3), on a lead outside the van or tent, and never left unattended. They are not allowed in common areas unless the park advises it. Clean up after your dog. Keep the dog secured at your site when you are not with them, and while the dog is at rest. 8

The same policy does not allow cats, or other animals, in the authority’s caravan parks, other than assistance animals. A dog-friendly campsite is not a pass for a cat. 8

What should I confirm before I book with a pet?

Confirm the animal, the number, and the fee line on the listing, and include the dog in the booking or the request. A pet-friendly title is not the house rule for your dates. Ask where the dog sleeps, and get that answer on the confirmation. 1, 2, 3

  • Include the dog in the booking, or in the request, before you pay.
  • Check whether the listing allows dogs only, or also cats, and how many pets.
  • Read whether charges may apply, or the listing says there is no extra charge.
  • Do not assume a fenced yard unless the listing says the yard is fenced.
  • Ask where the dog sleeps, and get that answer on the confirmation.

Where can a dog be off the lead in Lorne?

The shire’s Lorne map shows an off-lead beach north of about Doble Street, towards Stony Creek. Dogs there must be under effective control, which means they come back straight away when called. In township areas the shire’s dog walking page says dogs must be on a lead in public places unless the place is a designated off-leash area. 4, 5

A summer and Easter timeshare applies on the beach either side of the patrolled centre. It runs south of Doble Street to the Erskine River mouth, and south of the centre towards Point Grey and Shelly Beach. From 1 December to 28 February, and over Easter, dogs are banned during set hours shown on the signs, and allowed off-lead outside those set hours. Outside those dates, dogs can be off-lead under effective control. 5

Stribling Reserve is off-lead except during events, on the shire’s Lorne map. The map is dated January 2020, so check the current signs. Hard copies of the maps are at visitor information centres. The shire also publishes a dog regulations PDF. 5, 6

Can I take the dog into town and onto the pier?

You can walk a dog on a lead in town. You cannot take a dog onto the main town beach or onto Lorne Pier. The shire’s Lorne map shows no dogs on the main beach and foreshore by the town centre, and no dogs on the pier. 4, 5

The same map shows no dogs around the Erskine River mouth. Dogs on a lead are allowed on the defined paths. The shire says dogs are never allowed in playgrounds, national parks or environmentally sensitive areas. A lead on Mountjoy Parade does not make a playground or a national park legal for a dog. Hooded plover zones, and Lorne is listed, can close a beach section. Read the sign before you unclip the lead. 4, 5

How are these stays arranged along the coast?

Frequently asked questions

Are cats allowed at pet-friendly stays near Lorne?

Not as a rule you can assume. At least one listing we checked says dogs only, and no cats. Another listing talks about a four-legged family member and does not name cats. The Lorne caravan park policy does not permit cats, other than assistance animals. Ask which animals are accepted, and how many, and get that answer on the confirmation.

Can dogs stay in cabins at the Lorne caravan park?

No. The Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park page says dogs are welcome seasonally on designated campsites only, and that this excludes cabins. Kia Ora, Ocean Road and Top Bank are the dog campsites named on that page. Erskine River and Queens Park are dog-free. Book a campsite, not a cabin, if a dog is coming.

When is the dog season at the Lorne caravan park?

The park page sets the dog season as 1 February to 15 December. It excludes Easter, Labour Day weekend, Melbourne Cup weekend, the AFL Grand Final, ANZAC Day weekend, and other dates the park notifies. Up to two dogs are allowed on a booking. Check the park page for your dates before you arrive with a dog.

Is there an off-lead dog beach in Lorne?

Yes, on part of the coast, and not on the main town beach. The shire’s Lorne map shows the beach north of about Doble Street, towards Stony Creek, as off-lead. Dogs there must come back straight away when called. The map is dated January 2020, so read the signs before you let a dog off.

Do pet-friendly stays charge extra?

It depends on the listing. Some listings we checked say charges may apply. One says there is no extra charge. The wording is on the house rules, so open that listing and read the pet line for your dates before you confirm. Do not treat a pet-friendly title as a promise that the fee line is blank.
